Welcome Class E General Physics Class to your Media Journal!
Each week you will have a question to respond to and must do so by Thursday night of the week.
To respond, click on the Discussion Tab for this page; next, find and click on the respective week for the question; now choose Post and add your comment. Journal Question for the week of April 1st:
Architectural Lighting Design is a field that can be employed to enhance the retail industry (department stores, grocery stores), service industry (hospitality, restaurants, healthcare, advertising, entertainment). Reflect upon your personal experience in which you observed (and now recognize) that lighting was purposely designed to enhance the experience or observation that you made. Do not select an experience already posted by a classmate. Relate this observation to what was discussed in class this week by explaining, using appropriate terminology, how characteristic properties of light created this effect. Search the internet to find evidence to support your explanation and attach a link to your source.
Journal Question for the Week of March 22nd: Based on the results from your "Seeing is Believing" activity conducted in class, research on the internet an explanation of what caused you to see the virtual image of the cards you examined, which had different colors than the cards. In the response section, cut and paste the link to your source(s) and summarize your explanation in a brief paragraph. Journal Question for the week of February 7th: Use the internet to research an article that discusses a real-life example of how increasing noise levels became an issue for a group of people (residents in a neighborhood, employees, etc.) who took action to correct the situation; the article should describe what was the perceived threat and what action was taken to resolve the issue. Paste the link to the article you read; summarize what you believe to be the least understood fact about sound that existed in this case.
Journal Question for the week beginning January 31st:
Use the internet to research how modern man uses sound waves for something other than for hearing. After finding an application that is interesting, briefly explain how this use of sound was discovered. Also, paste a link to your source. You must select an application that your classmates have not yet selected.
Journal Question for the week begining January 24th: Research earthquakes and different kinds of seismic waves. Find an original online article to read that is informative and then paste the link into your response. Explain two things that you found interesting and learned from reading the article that you did not know before.
Journal question for the week begining December 13th:
Check out this video on the Metrodome roof collapsing in Minnesota this weekend. After watching, go to the discussions tab to read the questions for this week related to air-supported structures, such as the Metrodome.
Journal question for the week begining December 6th:
Research on the internet how hydraulic or pneumatic systems are used in industrial applications. Find a unique example of a device that utilizes the Pascal principle to function (you can not use an example that a classmate already used) and provide a summary of the how Pascal's principle provides a mechanical advantage. Provide actual values for ranges of input and output forces; also, define mechanical advatage, list and define two new terms, relative to physics, that you found while researching this topic. Cite your internet source(s).
